The client’s game room consisted of space upstairs that is connected to the children’s bedrooms. While they wanted the space to be comfortable and causal for the children, they also wanted it to blend in with the rest of the home’s sophistication. The client had a great piece of artwork that we wanted to remain a focal point of the room.
We began the project by selecting new wall to wall carpeting in a great neutral gray pattern. The walls are a gray/beige and we painted the tray ceiling a gray tone. The curved window area became a space used for the seating, where I placed a conversation sofa in a deep indigo soft performance fabric. The sofa’s fabric is great for use by kids and came together with the addition of fun patterns for the pillows. We anchored the curved sofa with a large round ottoman in a textured gray fabric with nailheads in a great pattern. We used simple end tables at each end of the sofa for lighting and storage. To the window we added a simple layered window treatment with a basic diamond pattern.
Across the room from the seating space was an area with built-in cabinets and a niche with the client’s beautiful piece of artwork. We wallpapered this wall in a textured blue, metallic paper that brings out the blue across the room in the seating space and really shows off the artwork. Additionally, we placed a chandelier over the table and chairs at which the family could play games or the kids could do art activities. The table itself has a unique protection with a catalyzed lacquer base top to take the everyday wear of children. The chairs are upholstered in a performance fabric with nailheads for that sophisticated class. Lastly, we topped off the seating area with a great chandelier. This is a beautiful, sophisticated room that will hold up to the everyday use of children.
