To match the excitement of Jason and Valerie, I chose a colorful palette to create a fun space for them to spend time with their two children. As inspiration for the living room, I used a piece of teal and coral colored fabric that Valerie used to make fabric purses. We decided to go bold on the walls and painted them in a deep teal, giving the space an intimate, jazzy place for reading or listening to music. We brought the coral in through the newly upholstered chairs, chairs given to Valerie from her mother. We added color further through the pillows on the sofa, but chose to keep the rest of the furniture and artwork in more neutral, gray tones. I wanted to further soften the windows with grommet panels in an ivory/gray geometric pattern, while also adding shutters n the windows.
We accessorized the space with pieces that would pull the room together. We changed the floors to scraped hardwood and added a simple yet deep charcoal, Moroccan patterned rug. I selected two accent tables, a chest and stacked books, to add a bit of a whimsy feel to the space. Lastly, I added artwork in neutral tones to balance the deep walls. I further added accent with green jars and bowls to contrast nicely with the coral and teal, creating a fun yet beautiful space to spend time with family and friends.
