The kitchen in this townhome felt like traveling back to the 90’s. The cabinets were stained, it had dark appliances, laminate counters, and low quality flooring. My client wanted a space that was not only updated, but was light and airy. While the kitchen was small, it had a lot of natural light streaming in from the many windows.
My client wanted a more neutral color pallet of grays with an accent of deep indigo. We wanted to ensure that all the flooring and paint colors would be great for a rental space when she decides to move in the future. We selected a higher quality laminate for the floors in a gray tone finish. We continued the gray on the walls that had been used in the family room space. We updated the cabinets by painting them an off white color and painted the island in a gray. We utilized simple taupe subway tile that blended nicely with the gray, taupe granite counters. All the lines were kept simple, including the hardware used. We updated the appliances to stainless, allowing the natural light from the windows to be reflected throughout the kitchen. The window treatments are a simple relaxed valance in a fun indigo blue pattern, bringing in that punch of color into the room. The light fixtures were updated with chrome and glass. We finished the room off with a small rectangular table and chairs in a taupe finish. The artwork brings in a fresh color pallet of blue, blue-violet, and blue-green. This kitchen is a bright room in which to cook and eat meals in.
