Project Overview:

When this client moved to Texas and selected her current home, she knew she wanted to change the kitchen. The original cabinets were a cream and covered in glaze, which caused them to appear dirty. The client wanted more clean lines, updated colors, and the room to feel more light and airy. She also wanted to change the floors from the original hard tiles to a wood. Additionally, because the client decided to take the bar area out of the family room permanently, we needed to take into account space for the bar supplies in the kitchen area.

We first selected a color pallet that the client loved in gray and blue. The client loves warm colors, so I suggested we compliment the blue and gray by using a soft yellow. We utilized a red oak floor to blend with the other floors in the home. The cabinets themselves were in good shape, so we chose to update them with shaker style doors, European hardware, soft close drawers and doors, steel rod handles and painted them in an off-white but without the glaze. Additionally, we added extra cabinets on the wall by the refrigerator with glass doors to accommodate the items that used to be in the bar in the family room, creating a great drink station. For the island we used a deep navy blue for the cabinets and brought warmth into the room by painting the walls the soft yellow. To keep the kitchen feeling open and light, we selected a gray granite and a white arabesque tile. The lighting in the kitchen also needed to be upgraded, so we took down the large light box above the island and added pendants. We also added additional 4” can lights, LED under-cabinet strips and LED strips above the cabinets. All the lighting in the kitchen have dimmers to adjust the lighting level. We brought in a new table and chairs to give the kitchen an updated style and comfort. The roman shades we added to the bay window give the room a softness and sun protection. The white and blue accessories added a nice balance of blue to offset the yellow walls. The client loves to cook in her new beautiful, sunny kitchen.
