Project Overview:

Linda and John moved from another state with a job transfer. They are both professionals – Linda is in the insurance industry and John is a pilot for a private company. They spend a lot of time traveling for their jobs and visiting family.
The home they selected was a newly built home and everything was very neutral. Their furniture had been with them for quite a few years and really needed to be replaced. They wanted a space that was uniquely them – rustic, casual, sophisticated and hold up to their 3 dogs and cat. They wanted to add color and loved warm and cool colors. They wanted pieces that were unusual and rustic. They both like clean lines but not too contemporary.
I wanted to give them a space that would represent them as a couple.
First, we selected the color pallet. Since we had dark brown scraped wood floors, we used a warm gray on the walls. They loved the blue green color – teal. To bring in the warmth, we selected fabrics with teal, greens, golds, and rust/pumpkin. We love the combination of both the warm and cool colors.
Secondly, I selected pieces that were clean lined but used fabrics that would give warmth. Using a rust color full leather sofa in oil rubbed leather. The leather has all the original markings which they absolutely loved. The fabrics on the chairs were a soft linen with great animal print pillows in the color of rust. We also selected an ottoman in a blue green color that also the dogs could lay on. The pillows and window treatments used updated patterns in Ikat and Moroccan patterns. The window treatments are ceiling to floor, which gives a great visual of how tall the ceilings are in the room.
Next, we selected tables and consoles in unique woods and iron work. The console was a rustic wood with drawers for storage. The end tables were a combination of wood & iron. The accent table was a banana bark wood which gives a unique pattern.
Lastly, we pulled everything together with great accessories. From the large rustic clock to the great abstract painting above the fireplace, we added pieces that would take your eye around the room. We added lighting around the room – fan look floor lamp and stone/iron table lamps. The colors were brought out through the ceramic vases on the fireplace and the wonderful artwork above the fireplace.
